Opinion : Letter to the Editor: Violence/Non-Violence

Dear Editor;

It has been interesting to see the comments concerning what led up to the January 6th riots. One thing that has always made me scratch my head is according to MAGA and Republicans, the Democrats planned the whole thing on January 6. For what reason?

The election of 2020 saw President Biden win “bigly”, over 7 million more votes that Trump. The Democratic president-elect was gearing up to set his own government during the transition. The Democrats got what they wanted, to dispose the unlawful Trump and his administration and begin a new administration.

Tell me why would Democrats set up a massive riot on January 6 for the express purpose of stopping the certification on their elected President? Those on the right say it was to discredit Trump more and stick it to his followers. But Democrats had already won and moving forward. Trump had already discredited himself.

Who had the real motivation to stop the certification? The future President or the person who was going to have leave the White House, kicking and screaming.  It was Trump who went to court over 60 times and lost every case but one to overturn the election. Trump’s operatives worked in secret to set-up Republican electors to replace duly elected Democratic electors. Trump thought that he could twist VP Mike Pence’s arm into stopping the certification. Thankfully Pence has some integrity. Think about that, was Pence a secret Democrat.

Remember all the conspiracy theories about foreign countries changing votes from the voting machines to Biden. The theory that busloads of people were sent into states to change the vote totals. Trump’s minions would say anything in their feeble attempts to actually steal the election. One of the more vivid memories of that period was watching Rudy Guiliani’s hair dye drip off of this face while standing in the hot sun. Who can forget Sydney Powell and her whacked out conspiracy theories?

Which party had relationships with the Proud Boys, the 3 percenters, Oath Keepers, and Qanon who created a lot of the violence that went on that day? They are not Democrats. It makes no sense that Democrats would help to destroy the Capitol when they wanted to assume the government on Jan. 20th. Has anyone who believes that Democrats organized January 6 riots to stop the certification of their Democratic President-elect really thought about it.

Trump is a sore loser and did everything he could to overturn the election of 2020. That included imploring his supporters “to come to DC on January 6th, it will be wild” (paraphrased). It was not Democrats who said that and it was not Democrats who followed Trump’s orders to riot on Jan. 6th.

Finally, when Trump, MAGA, and Republicans organize a public event to protest something, it results in violence and destruction. When Democrats and other like-minded organizations plan a protest, the event results it over 7 million attendees across the country with basically no violence. Some of the reported violence was the result of MAGA types trying to start something including running over a participant with a vehicle and another brandishing a gun to intimidate the crowd. So, we have on one hand a peaceful protest of millions or a violent protest of a few thousand and continual harassment. According to Republican fear mongers, Democrats are the violent ones because and even a Republican/MAGA violent event is the Democrats fault. How very interesting.
