The shovels are outside the door; the boots, hat and gloves await in your closet. The friend/neighbor/brother-in-law with the plow is on speed dial.
The basketball game has been delayed. You have nowhere to go.
So, don’t.
As a loyal Vinton Today reader, you do not need my advice on winter driving safety.
Hopefully, you stocked up on milk, bread, ice cream and other foods that are easy to make when you are too busy shoveling – and when you are too busy calling the people with plows – to cook.
So,tonight, stay in your favorite computer chair or laptop-friendly recliner, reading my columns on the budget or Lincoln’s birthday. If you’ve missed the Vikings’ 10-year basketball story, catch up on that. Or if you prefer some historical reading, see President George Washington’s Farewell Address, so tomorrow, on his birthday, when we discuss my favorite parts of it, you will be prepared.
Take a break from the reading, if you wish, to see Big Bang Theory. Then shut off the TV; nothing else is worth watching until the 10 p.m. re-runs of “The Twilight Zone” begin.
Go to your closet, find your favorite black and gold outfits, and get them ready for the big games
Then tomorrow night, when the roads are cleared, we can go to Van Horne, where a few hundred of you went a few weeks ago, while the rest of the VS fans cheered for the girls and our area cancer survivors.
The Vikings are looking to make their record 23-0 and earn another trip to the Sub-State game – scheduled for Monday, weather permitting (of course).
For those of us who have been watching for a while, it’s been a great ride. I invite anyone who hasn’t seen this incredible journey for yourself – even if basketball is not your favorite sport – to join Vinton-Shellsburg fans in the Benton Community gymnasium tomorrow night.
