State Track Meet: V-S athletes competed in several events

DES MOINES -- Through the early competition at the State track meet Friday, Vinton-Shellsburg's Allison Emrich and Taylor Leyden were among the first local athletes to compete.

The Vinton 12 and under boys baseball team won second place in their home tournament this past weekend. More than 30 teams competed in Vinton and Shellsburg during the two-day event.

TAMA – “Now the celebrating is done, and we have to get back to work for one more week.” Those were the words of Vinton-Shellsburg boys’ track coach Aric Chvala Monday morning after his Vikings put on a performance of epic proportions Friday at the Class 3A District track and field meet at the South Tama High School track.

We played West Delaware this evening and jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Kylie Fisher goal early in the first half. The team did a good job with passing to get the offense moving.

If you wanted to head out with the kids to an area ball diamond to hit a few baseballs around, better find a new spot to that that this weekend! There will be a baseball tournament in town, running Friday through Sunday.
