Every year, the Vinton-Shellsburg high school trap shooting team, the Red Cedar Shooters, ends its season with some new successes at the State meet.

The successes continued on Friday at the event in Cedar Falls.

The local team finished in 7th Place overall out of 315 squads; the local team has now placed in the Top 10 in the State for the 4th year in a row, against more competitors this year than ever before.

The Black Squad shot a 462/500, the best score Red Cedar has ever had at a State Meet.

The team also celebrated five 25 Straight's. Seniors Sara Jorgensen, Caleb Svoboda, and Wyatt Lebeda, and sophomores Hunter Martin and Nick Stein, who accomplished his first ever 25.

The Black Squad's second round at 16 yards was an incredible 122/125 -- only three birds of 125 missed -- a Red Cedar Shooters Record for a single round of trap!

Red Cedar's Top Shot honors for the day were shared by Hunter Martin and Tyler Stueck with 94/100 each. Nine Personal Best Scores for the season were recorded today

Sara Jorgensen was not only the #6 Top Female Shooter of the day after a late day shoot-off that didn't start until after 7 p.m., but then she was in another shoot-off and finished as the #6 Female in the State for the All-State Season League Honors too!

Sara's second shoot-off was nearly in the dark. Our first shot was fired at 8 a.m. Friday morning, and Sara wasn't done shooting until after 9 p.m. that night.
