Friday night was a great day for golf as the Vikings hosted Clear Creek-Amana and Center Point-Urbana at Wildcat Golf Course. The Vikings posted a career best 144 to win the meet, which challenges some of the best scores ever for Vinton-Shellsburg. Bryce Shaw led the way carding an even par 35 to be the medalist. Mike DeLong was close to the even par mark shooting a 36 to take home the runner-up medal. Austin Bohnsack also came in at 36 and Grant Noren finished the varsity scoring with a 37. Tyler Stueck and David Bray both posted a 43. Center Point-Urbana came in second with a 167 and Clear Creek-Amana was third posting a 170.
The Viking JV squad also played well and won the JV contest led by Tanner Cummings who led the field carding a 42. The Vikings had a team score of 175 beating Center Point-Urbana at 206 and Clear Creek-Amana at 210. Other JV scores were: Kyle Jorgenson 44, Trey Rouse 44, Brian Stainbrook 45, and Barrett Shaw 49.
Vinton-Shellsburg picks up a win at Tara Hills Thursday
The Vikings shot 157 Thursday to win the Varsity golf meet against Benton Community. Tyler Stueck was the medalist carding a 37 just ahead of the runner-up medalist Landon Pace of Benton who shot 38. Benton Community carded a 162, which was their season's best to date. Other varsity scores were: Grant Noren 39, Mike DeLong 40, Bryce Shaw 41, Austin Bohnsack 42, and David Bray 46.
Benton community won the JV contest carding a 183 to beat Vinton-Shellsburg which came in with a 192. Stuart Tiedemann was the JV medalist carding a 43. Other JV scores were: Kyle Jorgenson 45, Tanner Cummings 47, Trey Rouse 48, Brian Stainbrook 52, and Barrett Shaw 58.
