The Black & Gold and Black & Red will "Back the Blue" when Vinton-Shellsburg travels to Union for a Week 2 football game on Sept. 2.

The Union football team has a tradition of patriotic-themed nights this year, but they are specifically honoring law enforcement this season.

The invitation to participate extends to all area residents and football fans, and specifically members of four communities: La Porte, Vinton, Dysart and Shellsburg.

VS Touchdown Club members are passing on the following invitation:

On Friday, September 2, the Union Knights football team will host Vinton-Shellsburg. In keeping with the team's annual tradition of "Patriot Night," which honors those who serve their country and their communities, a special "Back the Blue" t-shirt will be offered for sale. What makes these shirts unique is that the proceeds from sales of "Back the Blue" will go to the public safety departments in four area communities: La Porte City, Dysart, Vinton and Shellsburg. Even better, YOU pick which community receives this special donation when you order your shirt.

Gregg's Sporting Goods and The Progress Review are proud to partner with the Union High School football team in this special show of support for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe.

Orders for "Back the Blue" t-shirts may be placed online at http://www.shoplpcink.co/merchants/back-the-blue-t-shirt/. The deadline is Aug. 20.

Vinton residents wanting to order shirts to be delivered to Vinton can contact Touchdown Club member Stu Overton at stupam18@gmail.com

"I am the contact with Gregg's Sporting goods and plan to do just that, pick up orders. If you want to mention that arrangements will be made to get shirt orders to Vinton and a pick-up location will TBD, we'll make it happen," he says.
