By VS Golf Coach Chad Pettyjohn The Vikings pulled together their best 18-hole score of the year Saturday placing second carding a 342. The place was secured going to the 5th score to beat Marion who also came in with a 342. Mike DeLong led the Vikings with a 4th place finish carding 80. Several other Vikings turned in their best 18-hole scores in competition: Tanner Cummings 87, Davis Bray 87, Broc Shaw 88, Barett Shaw 91, and Jace Rake 99. Benton Community won the meet carding 314 and was led by Landon Pace turning in a 74 to be the medalist. Other team scores were: 3rd Marion 342, 4th Columbus Catholic 347, 5th Grinnell 354, 6th South Tama 380. Supermeet results:Vikings Place 7th; Delong 2nd Team All Conference The WaMaC Supermeet was held at Springbrook Country Club in DeWitt on Monday. The course was in great shape and presented many challenges from hills, narrow fairways lined with trees, to many water hazards. The race was very tight at the top of the conference and to be in the top half of the conference. Williamsburg won the title with 315. Benton was second with 316 and DeWitt was third with 318. Mount Vernon placed 4th with 331. West Deleware placed 6th with 331 just ahead of Solon in 6th with 335. Vinton-Shellsburg was 7th carding a 360. Beckman was 8th with 368 beating Marion on a 5th score. Anamosa placed 10th with 372 also winning the 5th score over 11th place Center Point-Urbana. Maquoketa was 12th with 378. Independence carded a 386 for 13th place just ahead of Western Dubuque who placed 14th with 388. Clear Creek-Amana was 15th with 404. South Tama was 16th carding a 417. Mike DeLong shot 83 Monday to earn 2nd Team All-Conference honors Monday. Barett Shaw turned in a 91. Tanner Cummings and David Bray both turned in 93. Broc Shaw carded a 108 and Jace Rake came in with 111. The Vikings will travel to Maquoketa Friday to start sectional play.
