Sports : Independence and Vinton battle it out on the ballfield

Vinton-Shellsburg's Wes Powers at 2nd attempts to stop Jayden Lolagne of Independence

The boy's baseball teams of Vinton-Shellsburg and Independence Community went head to head for two games tonight on the Vinton ball field.

You know it's a tightly matched game with it's not over quickly! Both teams performed well, holding the other team off as best they could while Independence won with a score of 9-8. The boys kept the game interesting as both teams played a great game together.

The second game was played just as hard. Independence pulled ahead and it looked like VInton was going to have another tough night. Vinton's Axl Hoepner changed the direction of the game by hitting a double, running to third after an overthrow then making it home on an error, bringing in 3 runs on the play for Vinton-Shellsburg. Final score 6-2 in Vinton's favor.
