Vinton-Shellsburg High School is thrilled to announce the appointment of AJ Wygle as the new head coach for the boys' basketball team. Coach Wygle, a lifelong resident of Vinton, brings a deep passion for the game and a strong commitment to the community he calls home.
"I have lived here almost my entire life and have been a part of the Vinton Basketball program since I was in 7th grade," said Coach Wygle. "I bleed black and gold and am raising my family here. I am most excited that I will get to lead and mentor the basketball student-athletes to set a standard for themselves daily as students, men, and V-S basketball players."
Coach Wygle's vision for the program extends beyond the high school team. He aims to build a robust basketball program that begins with the youth and progresses through to high school, ensuring a strong foundation and continuity in skill development. A comprehensive schedule of basketball skill development sessions, league play, and tournaments has already been arranged for Vinton-Shellsburg players to participate in this summer.
Coach Wygle has previously served as the head sophomore coach and assistant varsity coach at Vinton-Shellsburg, in addition to volunteering as a youth basketball coach in the community, where his leadership and knowledge of the game have been invaluable. His transition to head coach is a testament to his hard work, and passion for the game and the kids of the community. He is willing and ready to put in the time to develop our youth in the sport of basketball.
"We are excited to see Coach Wygle's plans come to life," said Jim Struve, Activities Director. "His dedication to the sport and our community is evident, and we believe he will inspire our student-athletes to excel both on and off the court."
As Coach Wygle steps into his new role, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School community looks forward to an exciting era of growth, development, and success for the boys' basketball program. With a strong summer schedule already in place, the future looks bright for Vinton-Shellsburg basketball.
