Erin Randall led the VS Vikettes to victory in their first golf meet of the season. The girls defeated CPU, 204-233, at the Vinton Country Club.

Here is the summary of the contest:

Thursday, April 5

Dual Meet with CPU @ Vinton Country Club

Team Scores:

V-S 204

CPU 233

(Count low four scores of six)

V-S

Erin Randall 48

Cara Hach 48

Natalie Ketchen 54

Liz Moen 54

Mara Jessen and Katie Lovell both had 55

CPU

Mallory Thurm 49

Amelia Smith 59

Marrisa Brandt 62

Kamryn Haynes 63

Noncounters: Katie Walters and Dannielle Wenger

Neither team had enough for a JV score, but Colleen Finch and Samantha Jorgensen (V-S)also played, as did Sara Davis, Hanna Ellis and Sam Morris for CPU.

Co-Medalists: Erin Randall and Cara Hach(V-S): 48 strokes each

Runner-up medalist: Mallory Thurm (CPU) 49

Our six varsity players were all within 7 strokes of each other. This was Cara Hach’s lowest score in competition and first time to earn medalist honors. Low putts for V-S was Liz Moen with 16. We’ve been fortunate to have great spring weather for playing practice rounds outside. I saw a lot of good shots tonight, but we need to hone in on some of our weaker skills. The team is intent upon working for improvement; I was pleased with our scores.

Next Tuesday we have a dual at Three Elms in Independence. We host Waterloo Columbus, Marion and Clear Creek-Amana next Thursday in Vinton for a WAMAC quadrangular.
