Running in the halls was briefly permitted Friday afternoon at Vinton-Shellsburg High Schoo, where the student body stood in the hallway to cheer and offer high fives to the members of the boys cross country team and freshmen girls Lily Hort and Bristi Gerber.

Lily and Bristi will compete at noon on Saturday at the Fort Dodge Golf Course, in the Class 3A girls state cross country meet. They both qualified as individuals. The boys will race at 12:30 p.m.; they qualified as a team in Class 3A. 

Area residents were invited to a send off at the high school at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
