Following a disheartening loss in the nightcap of Monday’s WaMaC Conference doubleheader at Center Point, the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikettes bounced back Tuesday night to sweep a pair from Belle Plaine.

The Vikettes dropped Monday’s nightcap, 8-2. They led the game 2-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, but the Stormin’ Pointers came back for two, then blitzed the Vikettes for five in the bottom of the sixth to blow the game open. Maddie Cornell took the loss in an error-plagued game that did see the Vikettes bang out nine hits. Brittany Robertson, Mackie Stueck and Katie and Kristin Henderson each had two hits for V-S.

Wednesday night, the Vikettes bounced back in a big way taking a pair from the host Plainsmen. V-S spotted starter Lindsey Noren a 6-0 lead after four innings and they cruised in from there.

In the second game, the Vikettes broke open a scoreless game in the third to take a 5-2 win.

Game stats for either were not available at game time.

The Vikettes come back to Thole Field tonight to host Dyersville Beckman in a 6 p.m. JV/varsity twinbill. Thursday, they return to the road to take on Class 2A number 3-rated Mount Vernon in a JV/varsity tilt at 6 p.m. Saturday, the team hosts Belle Plaine, Dunkerton and South Tama in the 2010 Vikette Invitational.
