The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters remain in the top ten Trap Shooting teams in the State for a third consecutive year after a 7th Place finish at the Iowa High School Trap Shooting Championships held in Cedar Falls on Friday. The Red Cedar team ended their regular season on May 18th, ranked 12th in the State in league standings going into the State Meet, out of 122 participating Iowa high school teams. The Red Cedar Black Squad finished the day with 450 out of a possible 500 targets broken, just 17 shots behind the first place team of the day. 1,078 Iowa High School athletes competed in Friday’s event. Junior Drake Tilson and Freshman Tyler Stueck lead the Red Cedar Shooters individual scoring for the day with 93 out of a possible 100 shots each, and Stueck recorded a perfect 25 straight round while shooting from the 19 yard line. Junior Sara Jorgensen was ranked 14th in the State in the Women’s league standings at the end of the regular season, and finished the day as the 8th place female shooter of the event Friday. The Red Cedar Shooters team numbered 30 members this year, up from 20 in 2012, and were coached by Brad Burroughs, Chris Cantrell, and Jeff Tilson.
