James Craig Nottger, 72, of Vinton, passed away at his home Tuesday, October 18, 2022. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vinton by Pastor Anne Williams. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the church and one hour prior to the service. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Denise; daughter, Elizabeth (Jerry) Zieser; two grandchildren: Cameron James and Ella Zieser; brother, Steve (Jennie) Nottger; and sister, Carol (Doug) Van Fleet.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim was born July 26, 1950 in Waterloo, the son of Richard and Eleanor (Roblin) Nottger. He was a 1968 graduate of Orange Township High School. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa where he majored in Biology and Earth Science. Jim taught middle and high school science classes in Minnesota and Iowa, finishing his career at Benton Community. On June 19, 1976, Jim was united in marriage to Denise Klunder at Vilmar, IA.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman his entire life and passed on his knowledge of the outdoors not only to his students, but also to his daughter and grandchildren.
Jim was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vinton, where he served on the church council and various committees.
A memorial fund has been established.
