Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 21, 2022 at Blessed Hope Community Church in Vinton, with Pastor David Condry officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time, Monday, also at the church.
Darrell was born on August 1, 1967, in Bakersfield, California, the son of Burl and Vivian (Crow) Covington. He attended elementary school in Tucson, AZ and moved to Vinton with his family, during Junior High School. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton with the class of 1985.
Following High School, Darrell moved to Texas and worked as an optician for Pearl Vision Center for a number of years. After returning to Iowa, he worked at Twin City Optical in Cedar Rapids. Darrell was an accomplished artist, due to his love of the outdoors and hunting and fishing, he crafted outdoor scenes in the mediums of painting, sculpting and photography.
He is survived by his mother, Vivian Covington of Vinton; brother, Duane (Elaine) Covington of Ottumwa; sister, Susan (David) Poplawski of Cedar Rapids; nieces and nephews, Keisha Glydewell of Cedar Rapids, Amber Covington of Prairie City, IA, Nathan Covington of Ames, Joely Covington of Crossville, TN, Alex Poplawski, and Emma Poplawski, both of Cedar Rapids; and several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father Burl; he was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Covington; paternal grandparents, Cecil and Mae Covington; and maternal grandparents, Vernon and Effie Crow.
