Joseph was born on September 22, 1963, in Waverly, IA to Harold and Estafana (Lujan) Meyne. He was the eighth child of nine to bless this family and was also the youngest of twin boys. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1982 where he was active in football, basketball and track. He then served in the United States Army as an E6 and earned his Air Assault badge in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. After the Army, he served in the Army Reserves. He was a proud soldier for 16 years from 1983 to 1999.
He was famous for telling his family "You're burning daylight" when he wanted to get everyone moving and "making memories." He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and a lifelong New York Jets and Minnesota fan. Joe was a long-time member of American Legion Post 297 in Center Point, IA and in September 2023 and was honored by being selected as Veteran of the Month.
He received his AA in Electrical Automation from NIACC. He loved repairing machinery and was a mechanical supervisor for over 30 years. He was a handy man that could fix almost anything. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and would help anyone in need.
Faith and family remained important to him, and this sustained him during his final battle. Joe was confirmed in the Lutheran Missouri Synod church and was also very proud of his German and Hispanic heritage. He looked forward to yearly family reunions and teaching cousins how to make authentic Mexican dishes. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking, collecting antiques, riding bikes and watching good western movies.
Joseph was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Sally; his daughters Nicole Meyne of Vidor, TX, and Brittany Meyne of Bridge City, TX, stepsons Aaron Buechner of Vidor, TX and Brandon Anderson of Auburn, NE; granddaughters Aadalia Jones and Harli Bach; siblings Mary Anne Meyne of Webster City, Susan (Gary) Clark of LaPorte City, Catherine (Donnie) Ott of Floyd, Brenda (Gerald) Lauer of Stanley, David Meyne of Cedar Falls, John Meyne of Urbana, Vern Meyne of Central City; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
