Whatever you drive – sedan, sports car or minivan – one thing remains the same … auto insurance is required by law. But that doesn’t mean it has to be expensive. Here are a few ideas for saving money on auto insurance.

Maintain a Good Driving Record

Safe drivers cause fewer accidents, and therefore, are at less risk for claims. The better your driving record, the lower your premium. You may even qualify for discounted coverage. Traffic accidents, speeding violations or a gap in coverage can increase your rates.

Ask About Discounts

Ask your Farm Bureau agent about discounts for insuring both your home and auto, or insuring more than one vehicle. Safe drivers and young drivers who maintain a “B” average in school may also qualify for discounts.

Review Deductibles and Coverage

Lower your auto insurance costs by raising your deductibles. Be sure to review your current deductibles to determine whether you can afford to absorb a larger portion of your loss in the event of an accident. Also, consider lowering or eliminating collision and comprehensive coverage on older vehicles. Maintaining the cost of this coverage may exceed the actual value of your vehicle.
