Duane Fisher receives Lifetime Achievement Award from National Ag Educators

 Ken Couture, 2011-2012 NAAE President, Duane Fisher, and Glenn Sims of the FFA Foundation.   ATLANTA  – Duane Fisher, retired agricultural educator from Vinton-ShellsburgHigh Schoolin Vinton, Iowa, is one of only six individuals nationwide who received the National Association of Agricultural Educators Lifetime Achievement Award on November 30 at the NAAE annual convention in Atlanta. Fisher taught agriculture at Vinton-ShellsburgHigh Schoolfor 37 years before retiring in 2010.

After college she considered joining the Peace Corps but didn’t want to leave home for two years. She learned about AmeriCorps NCCC from some friends who worked with AmeriCorps VISTA and decided that NCCC FEMA Corps would be the perfect program for her.

Alliant Energy warns small business customers of utility scam

Customers should not provide credit card or bank routing numbers to suspicious callers Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, is warning small business customers about a recent utility scam. The scam artists claim to be representatives of Alliant Energy. The scam involves calling small business customers and claiming that the customer is past due on their Alliant Energy bill.

Treasurer Fitzgerald Helps Teachers Prepare Students for Iowa Assessment Tests

Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald is extending a helping hand to teachers across the state for the Iowa Assessment Test by providing students with a new number two pencil to use on their test day. The treasurer's program, Prepare for the Basics, is a no-cost program being offered to elementary teachers. Last year the program distributed over 18,500 pencils to schools statewide.

FFA members help ANF through tailgate event

  On Friday October 19th, 2012, we had a group of FFA members work with Farm Bureau to have the America Needs Farmers (ANF) tailgate in the bottom of the parking lot before our last home football game. We had burgers, chips, water, and a whole lot of desserts. We had many teachers, students, FFA members, and community members show up to buy their supper.

Girl Scout Troop 6652‏ earns 'Feed the Hungry' Patch

Girl Scout troop 6652 collected food to donate as part of a project to earn their "Feed the Hungry" Patch. The girls met, pooled their collection together and then will donate the food to folks in need this holiday season.
