NCCC Team Hits Home in Henryville

By: Justine Miller   NCCC team, Maple 5, arrived in Henryville six months after the March 2 tornado swept through the small town and destroyed hundreds of houses and shook up the community.   Upon arriving, the team took notice of the still fallen trees on the hillside adjacent from the newly rebuilt high school near the Twin Oaks Subdivision where the team would work with Habitat for Humanity to build 10 new houses.

AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps Class 19 Member Spotlight: Victoria Robinson

By: Krista Eichhorst Name: Victoria Robinson Hometown: Long Island City, N.Y. Victoria is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Spruce 1 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to travel and reach out to communities in order to help as many people as possible. Victoria graduated from Talent Unlimited High School in 2007 and the University of Hartford in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies.

VSHS NHS inducts new members

The new inductees of the VSHS NHS Chapter. Celebrating the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership and service, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School National Honor Society Chapter officially welcomed its new members during the induction ceremony Tuesday evening in the VSHS auditorium. Current members escorted the new inductees onto the stage; NHS officers led the ceremony. Amy Van Wechel, a 2000 VSHS graduate, was the special guest speaker.

Students Awarded Scholarships from Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University recently recognized its scholarship recipients for the current academic year, 2012-2013. The college and its departments award more than $2 million in scholarships each year.

Things Get Spooky for NCCC Team Serving in Rapid City

They started the project on September 11 and will finish on October 31. While at Black Hills Works, the team is teaching and assisting individuals with disabilities.

NCCC Team Works with Milwaukee Parks and Rec and The Nature Conservancy

  NCCC team, Oak Six, has been splitting their time between two project sponsors for their last project round with NCCC. The first sponsor is the Milwaukee County Parks and Rec in Milwaukee, Wis. and the second is The Nature Conservancy in East Troy, Wis.   With Milwaukee County Parks and Rec, Oak Six is primarily trail building.
