Race fans support Friends of the Shelter

Volunteers from Friends of the Shelter collected donations from race fans at BC Speedway July 22.   Hot weather didn't distract fans at the Benton County Speedway from showing their support of the local "Friends of the Shelter" organization during Fuzzy Friends and Hawaiian night on Sunday, July 22nd. Everyone was encouraged to wear their Hawaiian themed clothing and bring donations of pet supplies. Hundreds of fans entered the gates carrying bags of dog food, cat toys, treats and more.

It Was Supposed to be a Movie

    T’was just another boring eve; We planned to see a movie. A date night you could call it; Just me and my wife Suzy.     A brand new movie set to start; It wasn’t in our town. We thought about which one to see, Then decided we’d stay home.     We woke up early the next day.

Lost Dog: Family missing golden retriever from Dysart area

This dog is missing from the Dysart area; can you help find her? The following lost dog has been reported to the Friends of the Vinton Animal Shelter: Missing: female golden retriever about 70 pounds from northeast of Dysart (Bruce township area).  She went missing July 8. Brittany Perkins of Walford named to Drake University's President's List

  Brittany Perkins of Walford has been named to Drake University's President's List for the Spring 2012 semester. Students must have a grade-point average of 4.0 to be receive this honor. Drake is a private, independent university in Des Moines, Iowa, with an enrollment of approximately 3,300 full-time undergraduate students from 50 states and 50 countries.

   Kellie Holub of Walford was named to the Drake University Dean's List for the Spring 2012 semester. Students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or above to earn this honor. Drake is a private, independent university in Des Moines, Iowa, with an enrollment of approximately 3,300 full-time undergraduate students from 50 states and 50 countries.

Summer Reading Program kids enjoy magic, humor of Mr. E

Mr. E involved area children in his comedy and magic show Thursday. Rob Erdmann brought his puppets, humor and magic to Vinton on Thursday, where he enterained the Summer Reading Programs with a show that featured illusions, ventriloquism and a discussion of some book. The event was part of the schedule of activities for the Vinton library's Summer Reading Program.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Appear in Butter

  The world-famous Iowa State Fair Butter Cow will share the spotlight this year with the fairytale classic, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The sculptures will be on display in the Agriculture Building's 40 degree cooler throughout the Fair, August 9-19. The fairytale celebrates its 75 year anniversary this year since first premiering as a Disney film in 1937.
