Scholarships to be awarded to five area students
The Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary has announced the recipients of their 2011-2012 scholarship program. Recognition will be given at the Auxiliary’s Annual Luncheon on Friday, May 6, and the scholarship will be paid directly to the institution where the students will be enrolled full-time this fall.
Wesley Lyons has been awarded an $1800 Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. Wesley will graduate from Vinton-Shellsburg High School this May. His high school activities include concert and show choir, band, basketball, swimming, golf, cross country and speech. Wesley is also active in Ambassador Club, church youth group and his community. Aside from all of his activities, Wesley has also achieved a 3.85 G.P.A. This fall he plans to attend Drake University for Biochemistry along with earning a Spanish Certificate. From there he will go on to a physician assistant’s program or medical school.
All winners of the Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary were required to go through an application process to be awarded the scholarship based on academics, financial need and citizenship. Requirements included: having a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better; live in Black Hawk or contiguous county (including Bremer, Benton, Buchanan, Butler, Grundy and Tama); be a graduating high school student planning on pursuing a career in a health-related program or be currently enrolled in a post high school health related program of study.
The Covenant Medical Center Auxiliary is a service based organization comprised of more than 300 members. The Covenant Medial Center Auxiliary and Sartori Memorial Hospital Auxiliary are two of the largest and most active service organizations in the Cedar Valley. In addition to fundraising, both organizations serve to promote the cooperative interest between Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare and the community.
