Oak 3 is working hard to beautify the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Escanaba, Michigan and get it ready for the State Fair. They are using chainsaws to cut down trees while others carried trees to the wood chipper. They were joined by two men from the Delta County Road Commission who were pleasantly surprised at how fast the team is accomplishing their task. The team is also working on Growing Up Foresters, an exhibit at the UP State Fairgrounds that teaches kids about all different aspects of the forests of the Upper Peninsula. There are stations about wildlife, forest fires, logging and more and it includes lots of entertaining activities for the kids as they pass through. The exhibit is being relocated to a new building this year and they are in the process of helping it move to its new home. Oak 3 had an exciting opportunity to go to an event at the Fairgrounds Krusin’ Klassics 2012. There was an old-fashioned car show, a cook out and a band. The team has been enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Upper Peninsula. On a trip to Pictured Rocks they took pictures behind the cascading waterfalls and caught a glimpse of Miner’s Beach. Mixing a sense of accomplishment with a feeling of wanting to be a kid again they performed an Independent Service Project (ISP) working alongside Big Brothers Big Sisters for Diva Day. Helping kids to catch fish, teaching them archery and encouraging them to practice pellet gun shooting allowed for some amazing memories. Volunteers from the Paul Mitchell School in Escanaba grilled burgers and hot dogs for everyone.
