      This week started off on a somber note as many of us mourned the loss of Representative Martin Graber. I served with Martin in the Iowa Army National Guard and the Iowa House of Representatives. He was lifelong public servant, a dedicated husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed. The icy weather did cause my week to be cut short, but the time was well spent back in the district.

Chairman Seeman called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to the qualified electors of the County of Benton, State of Iowa, that the Special City of Urbana Election will be held on Tuesday, the 25th day of February 2025. The precinct for said election shall be open from 7:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.For the Special City of Urbana Election to be held on February 25, 2025, the precinct and polling place are as follows:Urbana City Hall/Community Center 102 Capital Ave, Urbana, IAVOTER ID REQUIREMENTS: Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the precinct before receiving and casting a regular ballot.

By Robin OpsahlFollowing a recent national assessment that found decreases in Iowa students’ mathematics scores, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced legislation Monday to help identify and assist students struggling with math.The bill’s text is not yet available on the Iowa Legislature’s website. A news release from the governor’s office said the measure would require early screening and targeted intervention strategies for K-12 students struggling with math, in addition to providing parents and teachers more resources to aid math instruction.
