Benton County Angel Tree Tags are Available for Pickup

The tree pictured is at Cedar Valley Bank & Trust and includes tags to help children through Benton County Angel Tree Happy December! It's hard to believe yet exciting that Christmas is so close already!Here at the Benton County Angel Tree we have been busy getting kiddos signed up, and the tags have been distributed for adoption at three local banks: Cedar Valley Bank, Farmers Bank, and US Bank.Please remember that we also accept donations of cash or gift cards! We have receipts available (if you need one for tax purposes) just request them.

Grovert awarded Patriot’s Pen Award

Dale Henry and Jerry Huffman of the VFW Post #8884 awarded Jenna Grovert the winner of the Patriot's Pen contest. Grovert is a student at Central Lutheran School in Newhall. Cedar Valley Bank & Trust is ringing in the Christmas season with their Giving Tree. The tree is full of names of those that can use a little bit of help to make the season a little merrier. County Engineer shares the many tasks of the Secondary Roads Crews

Myron Parizek speaks to the Vinton Kiwanis about all the work the Secondary Roads perform Myron Parizek spoke to the Vinton Kiwanis Club this week and addressed the many jobs that are required of the Secondary Roads Crew. Parizek will have been with Benton County 35 years this January. He began his presentation laying out briefly the Benton County lines which extend from Dysart, to a few miles north of Urbana and down as far as Blairstown.

They started the week out by going on a tour of a local reindeer farm called Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul, Illinois.

Former Atkins City Clerk, Amber Bell faces charges

The Benton County Attorney's office released the following statement:"On November 21, 2023, criminal charges were filed by the Benton County Sheriff’s Department against Amber D. Bell, the former City Clerk for the City of Atkins Iowa. These charges include: Unlawful Use of a Credit Card, in violation of Iowa Code Section 715A.6(2); Felonious Conduct in Office, in violation of Iowa Code Section 721.

It's Giving Newsday

The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as "Giving Tuesday." It's a global event that is held on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It follows the crazy shopping weekend of Black Friday and redirects our thoughts back to kindness and giving. In this business, it's just another "Newsday." You all enjoy Vinton Today. Vinton Today has been the go-to for current happenings in the community.

Virginia Gay Hospital Home Health Agency is pleased to host the annual “Angel Tree” for their clients. We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of giving by members of our community last year and we are excited to help our clients have another joyful, meaningful Christmas again this year! Many of our clients, who all live in Benton County are low income, lack the support of close family/friends, and have unfulfilled needs.

Vinton Kiwanis bring Dictionary Day to Tilford Elementary

Dictionary Day for the 3rd Grade Classrooms at Tilford Elementary courtesy of our Vinton Kiwanis The Vinton Kiwanis Club continued its annual tradition of handing out "A Student's Dictionary" to the Vinton-Shellsburg School District's 3rd grade classes. The  dictionaries contain definitions of course as well as other important tidbits of information.The Vinton's Kiwanis members delivered the books to the 3rd graders after introducing the children to the Kiwanis organization.
