Water/Sewer Rates set to Increase
The Vinton City Council has had to make some hard decisions over the last few months. Replacing the sewer plant has been at the top of the discussion as well as upgrades to the water treatment plant as well. "These 2 facilities are ones that no one thinks about until they don’t have water pressure or can’t flush the toilet. The new designs also are taking into account the safety of our employees in the day-to-day operations of the plant," said Mayor Bud Maynard.
It's safe to assume that everything is closed tonight and tomorrow
It is safe to say, everything will be closing down shortly in Vinton. In Benton County, the plows will be pulled off the roads for the day. The 4th St. Diner will be closed on Sunday.It would be safe to say that church is canceled tomorrow, for everyone.The phrase, stay safe, stay warm is no joke this coming week. Hunker down and enjoy time with the family. Winter has definitely arrived!

Retirement Announcement: Jim Womochil, Educator and Coach
After a remarkable career of dedicated service, Vinton-Shellsburg Community School
District announces the retirement of one of its esteemed staff members, Mr. Jim
Womochil at the end of the fall semester on January 15th. A Vinton graduate, 1985
Viking of the Year, and a Vinton-Shellsburg Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Womochil has

Benton County Courthouse closed until Tuesday, January 16, 2024
Friday, January 12, 2024 Benton County courthouse and county offices will be closed to the public. The courthouse will be open for one hearing that is scheduled in the morning, the doors will be locked at the conclusion of the hearing.Monday is a holiday for County employees. The Benton County courthouse and county offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 18, 2024.

Vinton-Shellsburg closed Friday
Due to inclement weather conditions, Vinton-Shellsburg schools will be closed on Friday, January 12th. This closure includes the cancellation of all activities and practices Friday.
VS evening events cancelled for 1/11/24
Due to unfavorable road conditions and the possibility of refreezing as the evening progresses, all competitions scheduled for Thursday have been postponed. This was a difficult decision to make as tonight is senior night for those involved with wrestling. We are working diligently to reschedule these competitions. In light of these circumstances, we want to provide our high school teams with an opportunity to maintain their training.
