By: Co-Reporter, Izzie Birker The Hairball concert took place in downtown Vinton on Saturday, June 10th.Vinton-Shellsburg FFA was again invited to come out after the concert to recycle the cans that are left in the streets and trash cans as a fundraiser.

Three young ladies submitted applications to become the next Benton County Fair Queen. Izzie Birker, Harlyn Heishusen and Kait Ballard. As a representative for the Benton County Fair, the queen will assist with various contests and activities during the county fair this week as well as helping with other promotional activities.

Trash collection is currently facilitated through J and R Sanitation of Garrison, IA. Beginning July 1, 2023, sanitation services will be facilitated through S&J Sanitation.

The Benton County Fair is underway!It takes many, many people to pull off the events at the fair. Several competitions and displays are now being seen in the Open Class Building (off to the left as you enter the fairgrounds) and judges have begun to award ribbons in the entries.

Everyone grab your calendars and circle Saturday, August 26th! Boomtown is back for its 16th annual Vinton show!! Let’s make 2023 the year to get those ‘Boomtown newbies’ to the show! If you’re anywhere this side of the Mississippi, this is an event that should NOT be missed.

Blessed Hope Community Church held their annual in town mission project, Faith in Action. The church compiles a list of locations in the community that need assistance.
