Blessed Hope Midweek organized drive through Easter Bags for Kids

Every Wednesday several children meet at Blessed Hope Community Church for a chance to hear a Bible story, create a craft and to have a meal. Due to all of the closures, the program has been shut down for the last several weeks. Organizing a bit of Easter fun for the kids, the church figured out a way to wish the children a Happy Easter with a drive-through pickup for the kids, being sure to keep that 6 foot distance, they were able to wave to their teachers as they drove by to get a bag of treats prepared by the workers.

Geekified distributes Game Bags

Autumn getting ready to hand out bags at Parks and Rec In light of all the kids at home, and all of the Social Distancing, Geekified decided that it would be a perfect time to help. The business put together 114 bags filled with games and activities to occupy families for hours during all of the time that they will have together. According to Steve Sauer, the bags were all distributed to area families in about 40 minutes.

Upcoming Decisions for Vinton Shellsburg Education

COVID-19 has done quite a number on the country right now, and schools are being affected by it as well. Scrambling to find a Plan B for education to submit to the Department of Education, the schools must come up with a way to educate through the end of April.Schools have a choice of three different ways to proceed. They can provide resources for learning, which might include something like posting a list of resources, and allow parents and children to use what they'd like from the list.

in one of the council meetings  a few weeks ago, City Administrator Chris Ward mentioned how important it is for everyone to fill out their census form. While the online form says that the count of residents indicates how many representatives we will have in Congress, it sometimes also determines grants and matching funds that cities and counties can apply for.

Covid-19 how it's affecting news coverage

There is so much information streaming in here, that just sorting through it all is mentally exhausting. Trying to figure out all of the government releases and if they apply to Vinton, or if it's some branch of government that doesn't apply to most of us. Then there's the continual "You need to write about THIS!" Okay let me address all of those topics:This will be news that I COULD drag out into lengthy stories, but this is how I will get caught up here.

Spring brings iVinton Crews back to Town

iVinton crews were busy connecting the downtown with conduit running it to the businesses last week. Last year snow in October brought the iVinton project to a screeching halt. The installation of conduit and fiber to homes had to stop because the ground had frozen. The crews COULD have continued, but that would have torn up lawns and equipment. As we waited anxiously through the winter, spring came early this year and the crews have rolled back into town.
