VIRGINIA GAY HOSPITAL - December 6th, 2018 10:24 pm

The Virginia Gay Hospital laboratory has been named a top 200 lab by Bio-Rad Laboratories for quality and timeliness of result testing. Bio-Rad specializes in life science research and clinical diagnostics and operates in 36 countries with annual sales of approximately $2.1 billion.
“Like many hospitals around the world, we buy products from Bio-Rad Laboratories to do quality control testing in our lab,” explains Tracey Herink, Virginia Gay’s Director of Laboratory Services.

If you receive a phone call from "Social Security" warning you that if you DON'T return their call, you could be arrested, it's a scam.
I know I've received several of these calls with a recorded message, and others have as well.
Please warn your elderly friends and relatives who might be more vulnerable to this scam.

Most people who enjoy the Blue Creek Christmas watch the neighborhood light up and listen to the music accompanying the show without realizing how much effort the display requires.
Located, as the name suggests, on Blue Creek Court, just east of the intersection North Center Point Road and Fee Road a few miles north of Center Point and a few miles south of Walker, the display has been lighting up the entire neighbor each Christmas since 2010.

Tour de Lights kicked off the race with a perfect winter scene, just enough snow for effect.
Racers lined up to take off at promptly 5:00 p.m. and the first place winner crossed the line 17 minutes and 51 seconds later. Jordan Yessak of Oelwein, was the first place finisher overall.
The first place finisher for the women was Kay Fett of Vinton with a time of 20:32.

Many of Vinton's residents are make the season more enjoyable with their many lights and Christmas displays. Pictures don't always do it justice, but we'll try to share pictures of the lights over the next few weeks.

Editor's note: The 2019 Vinton 150 Celebration will include a sweet corn event, which is a tribute to Vinton's history of being one of the first canning operations west of the Mississippi River. Today's historical review focuses on some of that corn canning history.

We are very appreciative of the Vinton Lions as they continue their tradition of donating their profits from the trailer they have at home football games to our Athletic Boosters.
In turn, the boosters work to support our student-athletes and the athletic programs in the school.
The Vinton Lions Club donated a check to the boosters for $1,400.

Virginia Gay Hospital and Clinics recently added Samantha Ferguson, PMHNP, (psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner) to its staff of medical providers and she beganseeing patients on Monday, December 3rd. Samantha received her bachelor of science in nursing and her doctor of nursing practice degrees from the University of Iowa. Her advanced mental health training included opportunities with the Veterans Administration hospital in Iowa City and Broadlawns in Des Moines.

“He Loved Barbara Very Much.” Those are the first words that President George H.W. Bush requested to be put on his gravestone, after that, his military service number.
Now I suppose there are jokes to be made about marriage and war, but in reality, those two parts of his life were the most important.
The Bushes are noted for the love notes that they wrote to each other during his military service, which reminds me of hearing about the letters between George and Martha Washington.
