Area Students begin the holiday festivities by hanging the Greenery

Area students begin preparing Vinton for the Christmas Season It's always fun to see the town begin to get ready for Christmas, (I know we haven't had Thanksgiving yet) and part of that is the annual hanging the greenery Area Vinton-Shellsburg students decorated local businesses greenery on Saturday, preparing the city for its first Christmas events of the season. The greenery project is a fund-raiser for GOVS, the VS scholarship program.

Santa Paws is coming to town

Santa Paws will be coming to Friends of the Shelter during holiday open house on November 18th from 12-4 p.m. This your opportunity to bring your pet and have your annual picture taken with Santa Paws! The cost is $5.00 for a 4X6 print.

Reade reads: The story of the sentences Heard heard about his sentence

Open Enrollment Period to Purchase Individual Health Insurance Begins

Residents of Vinton looking to secure individual health insurance for 2019 need to act fast. November 1 marked the beginning of the 2019 Individual Open Enrollment Period (OEP), which is the only time when individuals under the age of 65 can enroll in health insurance coverage for themselves and families without a qualifying event. The 2019 OEP runs through December 15.

14th Annual Tour De Lights

Twinkles Junior, created by Avery Kakac Age 6 Twinkles, a twine snowman that was the original creation of Mandy Kakac, But sometimes the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Mandy and her mom, Lori Smith, have created several items in the past to donate for the annual Tree Walk, and Avery has watched intently. Twinkles donated by Wilson-Hite Insurance This year Avery wanted to join in the fun, so it was agreed that she would make a miniature Twinkles which was dubbed Twinkles Junior.

Blue Ribbon School: Tilford representatives receive award in DC

Representatives from Vinton Travel to Washington D.C, to attend the Blue Ribbon Award Events Representatives from Tilford Elementary traveled to Washington D.C. this week to accept Tilford's National Blue Ribbon Award. Accepting the Award for Tilford Elementary were from left: teachers Sarah Mathis and Lisa Murray; Tilford Principal Jim Murray, Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock; and Tilford teachers Laurie Hyland and Shelley Haisman.
