ANNUAL JACK-O-LANTERN JUMP FULL OF SMILES

Taylor Gill on her way to help The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department hosted its annual Jack-O-Lantern Jump on Sunday at the Vinton Recreation Center/Community Swimming Pool. A lot of mushy, decaying pumpkins were dropped to a target below from the top of the waterslide tower. Everyone named their pumpkin before the launch and it was quite a sight when they hit and splattered.

Local author Schenck plans book signing at Holiday Open House at Henkle Creek

A Decade of Delivering Holiday Magic: Tenth Annual Holiday Tree Walk

 Melissa Schwan spent some time in the lobby of Virginia Gay Hospital on Thursday afternoon (11/1). She was one of the first to start setting up and decorating the tree titled “Lights of Christmas” that she is donating to the annual Holiday Tree Walk. It may be the first year she’s given a tree, but her handcrafted ornaments have been around since before the first Tree Walk was ever held at the hospital.

Munoz-Crane Family Community Benefit to help area Family

A local benefit will be held on Sunday November 18, 2018 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the Vinton Presbyterian Church, located at 608 1st Avenue.  Jesse Santiago Munoz-Crane was born on Saturday, August 18, 2018 weighing 7lbs. 5 oz. and measuring 20 inches long. Jesse has been diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Severe Combined Immune Disorder (SCID), there are various types of SCID though treatments almost always include chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant.

Kris Howes-Vonstein teacher of the year nominee

Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School science teacher Kris Howes-Vonstein has been named one of the finalists for Iowa Teacher of the year.  It's a well-deserved honor, say her colleagues and the principal of the building where she has taught for many years. VSMS Principal Shelly Peterson calls Mrs. H-V, as she is known in the halls of the school, a  "an extraordinary teacher who brings science to life in her classroom.

Holiday Loan Program Returns!

To continue our efforts to promote shopping in Vinton, we are again offering the 0% Holiday Loan Program. This program allows shoppers to borrow money from Farmers Savings Bank at 0% interest until May 1, 2019 to make purchases at participating businesses. The bank participating in this VU promotion this year is Farmers Savings Bank. Bake Sale for Yvonne a Success

Once again, Vinton stepped up, in a big way to help one of our own. When word got around that there would be a bake sale to lend a hand to Yvonne Zimpfer who is battling cancer, the folks in her circle of friends rallied the troops and held a combination bake sale an auction. Jessica Yerkes said, "I would like to tell the town of Vinton,  "Thank you for all your overwhelming support yesterday for Yvonne's bake sale.

Let the fun Begin!

The Vinton Skate Center was the place to kick off the Halloween fun today! The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of activities and events for the adult population within our community that have mental and/or physical disabilities. Throughout their programming, they strive to provide engaging environments that provide affordable opportunities for socialization, recreation and fun! Today there was a dance with lunch available at noon.

The Bake Sale for Yvonne is underway at the location of the former McClure Financial Services next door to Ron-Da-Voo. Doors will be open through this evening so feel free to stop in any time! There are pies, bread, caramel apples, cookies, bread and every kind of treat in between. If you have a sweet tooth, there are plenty of treats left and the cost is a freewill donation.
