Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School science teacher Kris Howes-Vonstein has been named one of the finalists for Iowa Teacher of the year. It's a well-deserved honor, say her colleagues and the principal of the building where she has taught for many years.
VSMS Principal Shelly Peterson calls Mrs. H-V, as she is known in the halls of the school, a "an extraordinary teacher who brings science to life in her classroom.

To continue our efforts to promote shopping in Vinton, we are again offering the 0% Holiday Loan Program. This program allows shoppers to borrow money from Farmers Savings Bank at 0% interest until May 1, 2019 to make purchases at participating businesses. Bake Sale for Yvonne a Success
Once again, Vinton stepped up, in a big way to help one of our own.
When word got around that there would be a bake sale to lend a hand to Yvonne Zimpfer who is battling cancer, the folks in her circle of friends rallied the troops and held a combination bake sale an auction.
Jessica Yerkes said, "I would like to tell the town of Vinton, "Thank you for all your overwhelming support yesterday for Yvonne's bake sale.

The Bake Sale for Yvonne is underway at the location of the former McClure Financial Services next door to Ron-Da-Voo. Doors will be open through this evening so feel free to stop in any time!
There are pies, bread, caramel apples, cookies, bread and every kind of treat in between.
If you have a sweet tooth, there are plenty of treats left and the cost is a freewill donation.
