Halloween 2018 in Snapshots

Halloween 2018 brought over 350 children to the Trunk or Treat even at Blessed Hope Church this year. The church included hot dogs, chips and a bottle of water for all who attended as well as a jumpy house and a bus load of fun for kids to go through.  The United Methodist Church held a Trunk or Treat event as well as the "Be The Change" fitness group.

Angel Tree program to begin accepting applications, Nov. 1; donations and space

Angel Tree 2018 will begin accepting applications for Christmas assistance beginning November 1 and go through December 10. Grassley visits Vinton in support of Candidate Gerhold

Senator Chuck Grassley made a stop today at the Vinton Family Restaurant to support candidate Tom Gerhold who is running for the State Representative position formerly held by State House Representative, Dawn Pettengill, in District 75. There was a group of 30 that met for breakfast and a time of visiting among fellow republicans. Tom Gerhold, says "I grew up on my family's farm near Atkins, learning the calue of a dollar and a hard day's work.

Cards of Love: Riders gather to show their love for Yvonne Zimpfer

Yvonne Zimpfer stood outside on Saturday, looking at the large crowd that had followed the pink fire truck to her house. "A lot of people are here to give you love," said the first person to hug her. The procession of several motorcycles and a few cars followed Dennis Bramow as he drove the Pink Heals truck  from the Ron-Da-Voo, where every table had been full of friends of Rick and Yvonne who had come to show their love and support.

Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church starts new Endowment Fund

Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church has established a new fund with the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. The Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment Fund will support the activities of the organization. Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church is a congregation in the Southeastern Iowa Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a church that proclaims Jesus Christ crucified and raised from the dead for the life of the world.

150th celebration organizers seeking historical artifacts

Vinton Unlimited Director Melissa Schwan is asking for input from local residents who may have knowledge or artifacts of local history to help create displays as Vinton celebrates its 150th year next August. "We are feverishly preparing for Vinton's sesquicentennial celebration August 17-24, 2019 and we need help," says Schwan. "We are looking for photos or articles related to baseball in Vinton, the Benton County Fair, Sweet Corn days and passenger train service in Vinton.

Boy Scout Troop 47 and Cub Scout Pack 47 to Scout for Food Nov. 3

Today the Boy Scout Troop 47 and Cub Scout Pack 47 went door to door placing red Scouting for Food bags to everyone's door in Vinton.  The wind was a tricky factor today but they got it done.    The Troop and Pack 47 will be around to collect the bags of food on Saturday, November 3rd starting at 9:00 AM.  Please have your Scouting for Food bag or any grocery bag with food on your door step by 9:00 AM so it is ready when they come by.

Be The Change Group Fitness helps to raise donations for Children's Hospital

Taylor Wheeler Be The Change Group fitness partnered with UNI student, Taylor Wheeler and held a 90 minute Dance Marathon for the Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.  Taylor was able to reach her fundraiser goal, of $700 total. The dance marathon at Tilford raised $697, but Taylor's little sister felt compelled to donate the final $3.

VGH files lawsuit against Medicaid Providers

Concerning the lawsuit brought by Virginia Gay Hospital, they have released the following statement: Virginia Gay Hospital has brought a lawsuit against Amerihealth Caritas Iowa, Inc., United Healthcare of the Midlands, Inc. and Amerigroup Iowa, Inc. The lawsuit, initially filed in September in state court, was moved on Thursday, October 25th, to federal court because the lawsuit alleges violations of federal law.
