On 01-08-2020, at about 1:17 PM, the Benton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an accident at Wendling Quarry, located outside of Garrison IA.

Shellsburg Elementary School Bridge Project

The Shellsburg Area Community Group (SACG) is wrapping up a project at the Shellsburg school. Ryan Davis, principal, supported the group’s application for a grant to replace the bridge leading to the restored prairie behind the school.

Lights and Roping hung for Christmas

November 16th, 2019Maren Redlinger Co-Reporter 2019-20 Lights and Roping were held on November 16th, 2019 at 9:00 am. The Vinton Shellsburg FFA Chapter and the Vinton Shellsburg NHS Chapter along with many adult volunteers were responsible for putting up holiday lights and roping for businesses around Vinton.

Undecking the Halls

It's that time of year, when it's time to pack up all of the Christmas decorations, and resume our normal lives, until next year. Saturday morning found area volunteers and students taking down the greenery around the downtown area, returning it to business as usual.

A kind, decent man...

    Back in 2007, Vinton was Ground-Zero for the run-up to the 2008 Iowa Caucuses. I don’t know what it was, but back when we were running The Vinton Eagle (that we founded, but never get credit for), it seemed like about all we did was talk to presidential candidates.

Wesley United Methodist Church seeking donations

The Wesley United Methodist Church which holds a Food Pantry at their church is seeking donations of jams and jellies for the month of January. You are welcome to drop off any donations at the church which is located next to the library.
