The former Hardee's building taken down

Monday was a long day for those tasked with taking down the former Hardee's building. It was thought that the building would be taken down weeks ago, but with anything, there was a hold up with approval from the DNR for removal of the debris from the old building.

Many of us think about the men and women that serve us round the clock with great appreciation. They are there whenever we call. Over the last few years, one of these public servants has been retired following surgery, in which he recovered and returned to work for about 5 or 6 months, but then after the second round of surgery to again remove kidney stones, he had to retire.

Last night the Vinton Fire Department held a practice burn at a house located on 3rd St. The property is owned by Al Garwood who obtained the proper permission to have the home burnt down.

The city council set burning day for the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday in October 24,25,26. Open burning of leaves and yard debris will be allowed in the city.

The Vinton Fire Department held their annual breakfast on Sunday. Beginning at 7:00 a.m. and running until 1:00 p.m.Serving ham, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy PLUS pancakes, it was definitely worth stopping for!Smokey the Bear made an appearance and posed for pictures, but I bet he hung out in the kitchen, just in case he was needed.

The local VFW Auxillary welcomed the VFW Auxiliary National President Peggy Haake from Hawaii to Tilford Elementary. She visited with last year's Memorial Day Essay winners Lauren Redlinger, Addison Heiter, Rylee Boggess, and Grayson Marzen.
