Sommerfelt Places in Best Feeder Calves Awarded in Iowa State Fair Show
Cattle farms from across the Midwest were recognized for their top quality cattle in the Beef Feeder Calf show judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Stephenson & Rundlett Grow Award-Worthy Whiskers To Win Titles in Iowa State Fair Contest
Men from across the state entered their prized whiskers in the Beard Growing contest held Tuesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. Among the ribbon-winners were two local guys.

Sweet Taste of Victory for Cooks in Fair Honey Cooking Contest
Cindy Paulsen of Cedar Rapids was named the Overall Winner in the Foods Made With Honey competition, judged Friday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Robin Tarbell-Thomas of Centerville won the Sweepstakes award. Quinn Harbison of Ames claimed the Reserve Sweepstakes award and was named Overall Winner in the youth classes of competition.
Entries were judged on the best use of honey as the sole sweetener in each entry.

No Horsing Around for FFA Competitors at Iowa State Fair
DES MOINES, IA (08/21/2017) (readMedia)-- Champion High Point Horse was awarded to Muddy Waters, owned by Victoria Brandt of AGWSR at the FFA Horse Show judged Wednesday during the 2017 Iowa State Fair. Brandt also claimed Champion High Point Exhibitor honors.
Morgan Williams of Hudson claimed Reserve Champion High Point Horse.
Kulish Receives Honorable Mention in State Fair Fine Arts Competition
The top artists from across the country put their skills to the test at the Fine Arts competition judged prior to the start of the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
The three-judge panel evaluated more than 560 pieces of art. Of those, only 380 were accepted into the art show.

Paustian Rhubarb Wine takes home ribbons from State Fair
Wine makers from across the state competed for top honors in the Iowa State Fair Oenology - Wine competition, judged on August 3, prior to the state of the Fair.
David Underwood of Clear Lake was awarded with Best of Show honors for the Grape Wine Division. Best of Show honors for the Non-Grape Wines Division were awarded to Matthew Kraus of Nauvoo, ILL.
Schmitke of Newhall takes third for Hairiest Legs at Iowa State Fair
The Mr. Legs contest was held Saturday on the Bud Light Stage at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.
Beyond overall leg appearance, several leg divisions were judged during the contest, including tannest, hairiest and thinnest legs.
