December theft charge leads to holiday back in Benton County jail for area suspect

A man who was arrested for two theft charges in September after a Belle Plaine officer stopped a stolen cargo van with a stolen motorcycle inside it has spent the holidays back in Benton County jail after violating the terms of his pre-trial release, and being arrested for running over a pedestrian while fleeing the scene of another theft, in Linn County in December.

Volunteer drivers needed for Belle Plaine Senior Dining

TheHACAP Belle Plaine Senior Dining Programis looking for consistent regular volunteers to help us deliver meals to seniors in Benton County! Our Home Delivery Drivers help our Senior Dining Program to distribute meals to individuals in need who can't make it out of their homes, especially in cold weather like what we're experiencing currently! We are looking for volunteers to help deliver on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30am-12:00pm.

Cold continues; local garbage service delayed

The bitterly cold conditions continue, causing many vehicles to not start. Among those vehicles: Garbage trucks that serve Vinton. Herb's Garbage Hauling has announced this morning that pick-up of trash and recyled materials will be an extra day late due to trucks not starting on Tuesday.

Memorialized in bronze: Sheriff Fry bust unveiled at courthouse

Nearly 80 years after he died in the line of duty, a bust in honor of Sheriff Leland Fry has been unveiled and will remain on display inside the Benton County Courthouse until being place outside on a pedastal later this year.
