By Ryan Clark Two last-lap passes and a photo finish provided for arguably the best night of racing so far this season at Benton County Speedway. A field of 105 race teams assembled for Sunday's third annual Urbana 5 Memorial/Iowa Donor Network event, which celebrated the memory of five area youth killed in a traffic accident in Benton County.

More than 8,700 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester 2017 Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work. The Urbana 5 -- the five young people who perished together in a tragic traffic accident on April 9of 2015 -- will be remembered again this weekend at the Benton County Speedway, for their personality, their humor, and their love of racing.

The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a Kids Fun Run, followed by the 5K and 1 mile walk/run at 6:00 p.m. Entertainment, food and fireworks complete the evening activities. Several participants, including many children, joined Benton County Veterans Affairs Director Toni Parizek for the 23 to Zero Ruck on Saturday. Beginning at Veterans Park, the 5K walk was designed to raise awareness of the issue of suicides among active duty military personnel and veterans, and to offer information and support for those dealing with PTSD and other issues.

The students listed below graduated from Mount Mercy University this May. A commencement ceremony was held Sunday, May 21, 2017, at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.   Morgan Eggert of Atkins, was recognized by Concordia University, Nebraska, as an undergraduate who graduated with distinction or high distinction honors based on academic achievements. Nearly 10 percent of the undergraduate class have graduated with high distinction, and an additional six percent of the class have graduated with distinction.
