News : VPRD announces job openings, upcoming programs

The Vinton Parks and Recreation Department announces upcoming programs, as well as some positions the department plans to hire new employees to fill: Programs: Adult Flag Football League This 5 vs 5 pass-only flag football league will play Tuesday nights at Lion's Field in September and October. A maximum of 12 players are allowed on the roster. A $30 deposit along with a registration form is required by Friday, August 30th if you are interested in having a team. Games will tentatively begin Tuesday, September 17th. Adult Volleyball League Registrations are currently being accepted for the 2013-14 Adult Volleyball League with four divisions available: Mens, Coed, Women's Upper, Women's Lower. The deposit required is $20 and must be included with a registration form no later than Thursday, September 19th. Play will tentatively begin the week of October 6th. Fall Disc Golf Tournament VPRD will be hosting an 18 hole Fall Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 14th. This tournament will take place at the Riverside Park Disc Golf Course. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM and the tournament will begin at 9 AM. The cost per person is $5 and there will be two adult divisions and one junior division (14 & Under). Trophies and prizes will be awarded and there will also be an Ace Fund. Youth Flag Football Kids in grades 1st - 4th may now register for our fall youth flag football program. Practices will be at the fields west of Tilford and the cost to register is $20. Registrations are due by Tuesday, September 3rd. Jr. Spikers Kids in grades 1st - 6th may now register for our fall Jr. Spikers volleyball program. The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Volleyball team will be instructing this youth volleyball program and practices will begin on September 15th. Registration is $15 per participant and registrations are due by Tuesday, September 3rd. Farmers Market Produce, baked goods and handiworks aplenty are available every Thursday through September at the Vinton Farmers Market. The market takes place at the Vinton Railroad Depot from 5-7 PM. VPRD is Hiring! The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is currently hiring for a number of positions! Applications are available online at vprdzone.com or at the Vinton Recreation Center. - Assistant Youth Flag Football Instructor: Instructors will assist the head coach in a number of capacities, including demonstrating flag football skills, setting up and executing drills, direction positioning and helping call plays during games. Practices the instructor must be available for are on September 10, 12 17, 19, 26 and October 1,3 and 6th. Practice times are 3:45 to 6 PM at the fields west of Tilford Elementary. Pay is $8.00 per hour. Please submit applications no later than Tuesday, September 3rd. - Skating Rink Supervisor: Adult supervisory position at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. Must be willing to work a fair number of Friday and/or Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons for open skate sessions along with various other times for private rentals. Starting pay is $9.00 per hour. - Skating Rink Staff: This position is perfect for a high school aged student! Staff assists with concessions, admissions and DJing at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. Must be willing to work some weekends since that is primarily when the facility is open for skating and private rentals. Starting pay is $7.25 per hour.
