A group of Vinton residents have partnered with Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) to bring a mobile food pantry to Benton County.

The Mobile Food Pantry will take place on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 to 11:30 at the 4th Street Diner, HACAP North Benton Center, 202 East 4th Street in Vinton. The first mobile food pantry distribution in Benton County will take place June 14, 2014.

According to Feeding America, in 2012, 10.6% of adults and 17.7% of children residing in Benton County were considered food insecure. These figures represent 2,760 adults and 1,160 children.

Foods distributed will include meats, breads, canned and boxed food items, cereal and produce among other items. Individuals and families who are in need of help are invited to visit the Mobile Food Pantry.

A general income guideline for mobile food pantry participants is:

Household Size Annual Household Income

1 $21,257

2 $28,694

3 $36,131

4 $43,568

5 $51,005

6 $58,442

7 $65,879

Participants are asked to bring bags, boxes or laundry baskets to use when collecting grocery products in an effort to remain environmentally conscious.
