Behind the scenes, volunteers and others have been working to prepare for this weekend's Boomtown and Boomfest activities. City crews placed flags on downtown light poles, and Boomtown Committee members worked with Veridian Credit Union employees to set up the fairgrounds for the weekend event. Veridian is again the title sponsor of Boomtown.
The music and fireworks start tonight at the fairgrounds, where a DJ will play music and many food vendors will offer a variety of treats before the fireworks begin at dark.
Boomfest begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, an hour after the Bring the Noise 5K event sponsored by the Vinton Kiwanis Club. Boomtown's big Saturday evening fireworks show starts at dark, but the entertainment by regional band Little Midgets begins at 6 p.m.
