Amy Sharar said she tried to add some new challenges to the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School art program this year. The new projects included "me" collages; black and white fish sketching for 6th grade students that included learning about overlapping, pattern, design and positive and negative space as well as bubble letters (also the students learned to identify the seven types of fins on a fish!);  a terracotta army; and U.S. maps in the style of Jasper Johns.

All of these were on display at the Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Art Show Tuesday evening. The show took place at the same time as Band Extravaganza.

In addition to the new projects, students created the traditional VSMS favorites: Colored glass, cellophane sculptures and a variety of small books. They also have been studying the color wheel and how the different colors combine in different styles of art.
