Outside of the Vinton's new hotel, tons of dirt and gravel are still being moved outside as workers continue landscaping and await good weather for the pouring of the concrete parking lot.
But inside, the Cobblestone Inn is open for business.
"We still have landscaping to finish and a few of our rooms have minor construction issues," said manager Roxy Wright. "But all of our rooms are open.
A grand opening is tentatively scheduled for June 30; Gov. Chet Culver is an expected guest.
Meanwhile, says Wright, "Anyone can call us and if we are free, we will be glad to show them around."
The Cobblestone Inn has 31 rooms, some with whirlpools. The rooms either have one king-size bed or two queen-sized beds. A small convenience store and laundry are also available. A complimentary hot breakfast offers guests Belgian waffles, eggs, sausage, fruit, toast, cereal and more.
"We try to keep a variety," said Wright. "Here at Cobblestone, we are all about accommodating our guests.
Early Bookings
The hotel is mostly booked for the weekend of Boomtown, said Wright, but not because of the fireworks display.
"We have reserved two blocks of rooms for two weddings that weekend," she explains.
An AMVETS event in Vinton has also booked the entire hotel for a few days in October.
But with some block reservations, a month before the event, some of those rooms become free. That may be the case for the Boomtown weekend, said Wright.
Wright said she's very happy with the response so far from residents and customers.
Wright and her husband came from Wisconsin, where they had managed a new Cobblestone Inn.
"When they asked us to come to Vinton to open this one, we jumped at the chance," she said. "And Vinton has been a very, very nice experience. The people have made us feel at home here."
