VINTON – Bonetta M. Christy, 83, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a brief illness.


Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Vinton with Pastor Zach Zajicek officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton and also one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Garrison Cemetery.


Bonetta was born January 11, 1931, in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Bryan and Marie Conrad Finley. She attended school in Rolla, Missouri, and Marengo.


On December 8, 1956, Bonetta was united in marriage with Myron D. Christy at the Lutheran Church in Marengo. The couple lived in Garrison and Vinton during their marriage. Myron preceded her in death on January 27, 2011.


Bonetta worked at Collins Radio before her marriage. After she married Myron, she had daycare for children in her home.


Bonetta was a member of First Baptist Church in Vinton. She and Myron cleaned the church for many years, and Bonetta was also a Deaconess.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading the Bible.


Bonetta is survived by one son, Darrell Christy of Vinton; two daughters: Charlene (Dan) Ackerman of Joliet, IL, and Sharon (Kirk) Wright of Vinton; three brothers: Gene (Sharlene) Finley of Vinton; Dale (Betty) Finley of Williamsburg; and Jerry (Vicki) Finley of Bettendorf; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one sister, Betty Finley.


A memorial fund has been established.
