David E. Skeries, 78, died Saturday, July 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Stephen K. Preus officiating.
David was born July 29, 1935, in Tripoli, Iowa, to Ewald and Zatha Schmidt Skeries. He attended school in Manchester, graduating in 1955. On January 13, 1957, he married Wanda Steffens in Manchester. He served his country in the Army Reserves.
David worked for Transport Trailers in Cedar Rapids until 1969 when he moved to Vinton and bought Vinton Welding. David retired and sold his business in 2005. In 2007, he told his daughter, “You can only golf so much,” and went back to work for Ideal Industries in Vinton.
As an organ donor, David gave the gift of life to many people.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda, of Vinton; daughter, Robyn (Julian) Santana of Minneapolis, MN; sister, Jolene (Dick) Koch of Manchester; brothers, Douglas (Vera) Skeries of Cedar Rapids and Daniel (Connie) Skeries of LeClair; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Wall, and her husband, Don.
A memorial fund has been established.
