VINTON: Rhoda Olive Walker, 97, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Prairie Creek Church rural Vinton with Rev. David Arnold and Rev. Dennis Sackett officiating. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery north of Vinton. Friends may call at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, 2014 . A memorial fund has been established.
Rhoda was born September 1, 1916 in Pulaski, Iowa, the daughter of Travis and Mabel Edna (Bollman) De Vault. She graduated from Rhodes High School. On May 25, 1935 she married Paul V. Walker in Bloomfield, Iowa. Paul preceded Rhoda in death in 1999.
Rhoda and Paul moved to a farm North of Vinton in 1939, where she continued to live until entering Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in 2004. She was a member of the Prairie Creek Church, where she served as an Elder and President of the Industrial Circle. She also served as a 4-H leader in her younger years.
Rhoda is survived by three sons; Larry (Joanne) Walker of Vinton, Okee (Lora) Walker of Vinton, Lonny (Ronda) Walker of Kearney, MO; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild; her sister, Edna Langham of Des Moines and her sister-in-law Betty De Vault of Newton
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her daughters, Judy Jones and Bonnie Walker; her grandsons, Scott Yerkes and Tony Yerkes; her brothers Harvey, Ralph, Eliza, Vern and August De Vault and her sister Goldie Elridge.
