CEDAR RAPIDS: Margaret (Kelley) Cashman, 87 of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Vinton died suddenly at her home on May 12, 2016.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, May 16, 2016 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton. Interment will be in Big Grove Cemetery, rural Vinton. Visitation will also be at the funeral home one hour prior to services. A memorial fund has been established. Condolences may be left at: www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com.

Margaret was born on December 16, 1929 to John W. and Laura Adams Kelley in Vinton. She graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1947 where she had a love of music and spent several years in the Vinton School Band and studied piano.

She was united in marriage to Donald E. Cashman of Vinton on September 14, 1947. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1952. Two children were born to Margaret and Donald: Ronald Wayne in 1953 and Julie Cristine in 1958. Margaret had a great love of children and spent 31 years working in the Cedar Rapids School System.

Margaret had many interests throughout her life. She became an accomplished seamstress and had great fun fashioning clothing for two of her grandchildren. She was also an avid book lover and loved the outdoors spending time camping and hiking.

Margaret thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and tried to spend as much time w/them as possible.

Margaret felt blessed to be raised in the loving family and for parents who taught her the importance of getting along in life.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Julie Bramow of Vinton; her grandchildren: Katheena Shannon, Raymond (Brandy) Cashman-Varnum, Amelia (Chuck) Meadows; her great grandchildren, Jaeden KayLee Shannon, James Patrick Shannon, Jonathan Jacob Shannon, Evelynn Patricia Meadows and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Donald on February 12, 2014; her son, Ronald in 2013; her grandson, Jacob Nathan Merck, four sisters, Evelyn Wenner, Thelma Hays, Maxine Bantz and Joyce Witte, two brothers, Wayne Kelley, and John M. Kelley and her beloved niece, Evelyn Downs Schoonover.
