Obituaries : Susan Hite

Susan Hite, 71, died peacefully November 30, 2018 at her residence from liver failure with her daughter at her side. A memorial gathering to celebrate Susan’s life will be held from 4 to 7 pm Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the Vinton American Legion Hall. The family will have a pot luck dinner during this time for attendees and anyone wishing to contribute food is welcome to do so. Susan was born September 11, 1947 in Vinton, the daughter of Bernard and Vera Johnella Van Deusen Bergen. She grew up and attended school in Vinton. She received her CNA certification and worked at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart and the Cedar Valley Ranch, retiring in 2004 due to health issues. On March 23, 1973 she married Steven Hite in Vinton. Steve preceded her in death in 2012. Susan was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vinton. She enjoyed movies, going out to eat with Steve, playing computer solitaire and being with her pets. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Susan is survived by her daughters, Chris (Doug) Miller and Mindy (Shawn) Kies of Vinton; son, Allen Hite, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Justin Miller, Jennifer Lane, Johnathon Miller, Charity, Patience, and Faith Kies. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and two brothers, Joe and Keith Bergen. A memorial fund has been established.
