Viola M. Bonesteel Mullinex

SHELLSBURG: Viola M. Bonesteel Mullinex, 83, died Friday, December 31, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 3, 2011 at Grace Community Church in Shellsburg with Pastor Edward Kraft officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St. in Vinton, from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday. A Memorial Fund has been established.

Viola was born April 16, 1927 in Vinton to Theron "Pete" and Louise (Haase) Bonesteel and graduated from the Shellsburg High School. On October 31, 1947 she married Thurley G. Mullinex at Shellsburg. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2005.

A member of Grace Community Church, Viola enjoyed serving her congregation in the Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of the Shellsburg Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge. She loved to garden.

She is survived by her sons, Bill (Linda) Mullinex of Marion, and LaVern (Karen) Mullinex of Charles City; and her grandchilren, Brian and Angie Mullinex, both of Merrimac, WI, Mike Mullinex of Colorado, Carly Mullinex who lives in Spain, and James, John and Jason Funti of Charles City.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by her brothers, Bennie, LaVern and Dewey Bonesteel and her sister, Fern Glean.
