Obituaries : Gene Yeries

Gene Yeries, 70, of Norway, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with a terminal illness.

Gene was born March 5, 1953 to Leo and Mary Yeries in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the youngest of 2 children. He graduated from Norway High School in 1971. After high school, he attended mechanic school and proceeded to work many years as both an auto mechanic, while also farming full time on his family farm.

He deeply enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud grandfather. He considered his two dogs Bailey and Darla, also like his children. He loved tinkering and fixing things in his shed. He would research the internet and would always find a way to fix any mechanical problems himself, for he or his family. He always had "to do" list notes on his counter in the kitchen and worked hard to get everything done on his lists. Only to then make more "to do" lists.

Gene is survived by his daughters Jessica (Shawn) Michael, Cari (Ben) Meyer and 3 grandchildren, Kaden Michael, Landyn and Macklyn Meyer; and sister, Linda Yeries.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Mary Yeries.

Per Gene's wishes, there will be no visitation or services at this time. A private family celebration of life and burial service will be planned at a later date.

His family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the wonderful staff of Essence of Life Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice in Amana.
