BLAIRSTOWN - Sheryl Ann (Hall) Siek, 56, of rural Blairstown, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Marengo Memorial Hospital following a brave battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown with Pastor Mike Musick officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., June 21, also at the church.
Sheryl was born November 19, 1954, in Grinnell, the daughter of Roger L. and Joan M. (Goodrich) Hall. She graduated from BGM High School in 1973. On February 16, 1974, Sheryl was united in marriage with Richard A. Siek at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church for nearly forty years. Sheryl’s lifelong occupation was in the farming and livestock industries; and, for many years, she worked as a Graphic Designer. She traveled extensively with her husband and children to livestock shows across the country. She also enjoyed fishing in Canada, folk art shows, morel mushroom hunting, gardening, cooking and spending time with her two grandsons. She served as a junior advisor for both the Iowa Junior Simmental Association and the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association, served on the Iowa Beef Breed’s Council and as President of the Iowa Simmental Association. She was a widely recognized, highly talented and dearly regarded cattlewoman.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; one daughter: Heather Siek of Des Moines; one son: Aaron (Abby) Siek of Malcom; two grandsons: Owen Siek and Valek Shilling; her parents: Roger and Joan Hall of Malcom; one sister: Regina (Duane) Hendrickson of Stanhope; and, 11 nieces and nephews. Sheryl was preceded in death by one sister, Carla Hall, and her father-in-law, Henry Siek. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
