Nathan John Grieder, 85 of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at Keystone Care Center, Keystone, IA, surrounded by family.

Nathan was born April 24, 1939 in Belle Plaine, the son of John Jacob and Myrtle Evalena (Brown) Grieder. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School the class of 1957. Following high school Nathan enlisted in the United States Air Force. On December 20 1958 at the Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, Nathan married his high school sweet heart Sharon Kay French. Together they moved to Alabama to be near where Nathan was stationed while in the Air Force. Following his military service. The couple returned to Belle Plaine. Nathan worked for Ehlen Plumbing and Heating until working with his dad on the family farm. Nathan was a lifelong farmer.

Nathan enjoyed farming, basketball and football cheering on his favorite teams the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnasota Vikings. He was a Belle Plaine booster never missed his kids' football or basketball games, if there was farming to do it could wait till tomorrow.

Nathan was often helping a neighbor farming, or just talking about life from one side of the fence to the other. He could often be found at Grieder's Standard Station eating a candy bar and drinking a pop. Nathan was hardworking, fun loving, with a great sense of humor, he would never say anything bad, and always avoided arguments. He was a member of the Belle Plaine American Legion, 4 County Co-Op and Christ United Methodist Church.

Nathan is survived by his wife, Sharon Grieder of Belle Plaine; daughter, Julie (Jeff) Herman, of Belle Plaine; grandson, Jason (Becky) Herman; great-granddaughter, Stori Herman all of Keystone; granddaughter, Jenna (Greg) Jones; great-grandchildren, Ava and Eden Jones all of Wellsburg; son, David (Nadine) Grieder of Marion; granddaughter, Holly (Brian) Corkery; great-grandchildren, Keegan, Brooke Corkery; granddaughter, Amanda (Jeff Holst) Grieder; great-granddaughter Stella Bea Holst all of Marion; sister, Virgina (Carl) Wagner; brother, Richard Grieder; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Howard (Hila) Grieder; sister-in-law, Eleanor Grieder; in-laws, Lyle and Jean French; brother-in-law, Duane French; nephews, Steve Wagner, Mike Grieder; niece, Tara Elizabeth.

Funeral service is 10a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, IA with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine with military honors.
