Obituaries : Frances Hilliard

BRANDON -- Frances M. Hilliard, 90, of Vinton, formerly of Brandon, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Per Frances’ wishes, her body will be cremated and laid to rest in the Urbana Cemetery. Frances was born July 8, 1922, in rural Garrison, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Carrie Mossman Wenner. She married Laurence A. Hilliard on October 6, 1940, in Vinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2005. Frances and Laurence farmed in Brandon, Winthrop and Urbana. Frances also fed horses until moving to the Lutheran Home in November of 2005. She enjoyed spending time with her family and being involved in her community. Frances is survived by two sons: Wayne (Carol) Hilliard of Brandon and Don (Terry) Hilliard of Cedar Rapids; two nieces: Louise Weise of Vinton and Betty Roberts of Reinbeck; three nephews: Raymond Morgan of Milan, IL; Bob Wenner of Marshalltown and Roger Wenner of Vinton; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons; two brothers; two sisters; and one niece, Carol Auld. A memorial fund has been established.
