Dear Editor,
As the Iowa caucuses are less than a week away, my fellow Iowans are searching for the candidate they feel will best serve our country. Between the phone calls and hit pieces that are in my daily mail box, I’m sure my fellow Iowans are just as ready as I am for the Iowa caucus to be over.
While we tire of all the campaigning that happens in our state every four years, we Iowans play an important role in selecting our nation’s most prominent leader and it is our duty to do our due diligence and fully research and vet the candidates before caucusing.
I would submit to my fellow Iowans that the best candidate seeking the nomination for President of the United States is Senator Ted Cruz.
Senator Ted Cruz is a man of noble character who loves God, family, and country. He is honest, a trait that is severely lacking in Washington, D.C. and he has kept his campaign promises. Senator Cruz is pro-life without exception and he understands that without the right to life, there can be no right to liberty or the pursuit of happiness. Most notable on this issue is that Senator Cruz successfully defended the ban on partial birth abortion and successfully defended a parental notification law, both which were argued in front of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Senator Cruz is pro-religious liberty and pro 2nd amendment and has shown by his actions that he is unwavering in these belief: Senator Cruz fought for the rights of companies and organizations to run their businesses in a way that aligns with their religious convictions; Senator Cruz successfully defended the constitutionality of displaying the Ten Commandments monument; Senator Cruz successfully defended the second amendment rights in front of the Supreme Court who then overturned a ban on firearms; Senator Cruz along with Senator Paul led the fight to stop more gun control legislation proposed by Senate democrats. In 2013, Senator Cruz along with Iowa’s own Senator Grassley proposed new legislation allowing for interstate sale and transportation of firearms.
Senator Cruz has stood in the gap for Americans on the issue of amnesty, successfully introducing amendments that halted the attempted passage of the renowned ‘Gang of Eight’ bill, a bill which would have granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in the state. Senator Cruz has committed to making illegal immigration a priority and has vowed to halt sanctuary cities, build a wall that works, and enforce existing immigration laws and then will address any illegal aliens left in the United States after enforcing our existing laws.
Senator Cruz is a proponent of a flat tax which, according to the tax Foundation, would boost GDP, increase wages, and create 4.8 million new jobs. Senator Cruz has also vowed to get rid of excessive EPA regulations. Senator Cruz does not believe the government should subsidize oil OR ethanol. Senator Cruz opposed Obamacare and plans to repeal every word of the bill and put in place laws that allow health insurance to be purchased across state lines, expand health savings accounts, and de-link health insurance from employment.
Senator Cruz is strong on national security and has said he will tear up the Iran deal on his first day in office. Senator Cruz introduced legislation that prevents terrorists from entering the U.S. as ambassadors (signed into law by President Obama) as well as legislation that encouraged the Secretary of State to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization and has called for the government to call ISIS what it is, radical Islamic terrorism, and to increase our national security in part by fully securing our borders.
If Iowans are looking for a savior, someone who can single-handedly bring the nation back to its founding roots, they won’t find that in any candidate running in the race for the only Savior who can do that is Jesus Christ. If Iowans are looking for a leader who loves this country, will keep his promises, and will lead this fight to restore America to greatness, Senator Cruz is that leader and I implore my fellow Iowans to caucus with me on February 1st for Senator Cruz.
Respectfully,
Bethany Gates
